Sarah Elizabeth McKinney Sarah Elizabeth McKINNEY was born 12 Aug 1851. Records disagree on whether her family was living in WI or in the Springfield, IL area at that time. The family has not been found in census records of either state in 1850. She was the daughter of Burrell McKINNEY and Nancy LILLARD.
On 31 Dec 1871 she was married to William Clark VANCE, son of William VANCE and Margaret WALLACE in Aken Twp., Richland Co., WI. About 1883/4 William moved his family to Floyd Co., IA where he took up farming. In the early 1900's they moved again to the Dakota area and farmed there but moved back to Floyd Co about 1903. There they made their living farming until they moved into town on retiring. Sarah died 2 Dec 1933 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery outside the town of Floyd, Floyd Co., IA.
William Clark and Sarah had 10 children.
- Nancy (Jennie) Jane VANCE b. 11 Feb 1873 in Blue River, Grant Co., WI m. 1) Charles E. VANDAWALKER 11 Aug 1894. He died in 1900 and she married 2) Charles MARQUARDT 2 Jul 1902. Jennie died 11 Feb 1961. She is buried in Oakwood Cemetery near Floyd, Floyd, IA
- William Washington VANCE b. 11 Aug 1874 in Richland Co. WI m. Minnie PEPPER 19 Jan 1902 in Floyd Co., IA. He died 11 Feb 1956 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
