George W. McKinney George W. McKINNEY was born in Crawford Co., WI 31 Jan 1845. He was the oldest known child of Burrell McKINNEY and Nancy LILLARD. According to his obituary the family lived in that county until sometime after 1860 when they spent some time in Taylorville, Christian Co., IL. By 1870 they were back in WI, this time in Richwood Twp., Richland Co. On 25 Mar 1875 he married Nancy Elizabeth CARPENTER, the daughter of Henry Carpenter and wife Phebe Katherine BROWN.
After their marriage, George and Nancy lived in Richland Co., WI. They were living there when Burrell died about 1882. When George's mother moved to Floyd Co., IA in 1883, they moved nearby to Butler Co. By 1887 they moved to Dufield Twp., Chickasaw Co., IA. They stayed in that area until his mother died in 1897. In 1898 they moved to a farm two miles north of Appleton, Swift Co., MN. and this was their home until they moved into the village in 1907.

- Charles T. McKINNEY b. Mar 1884 in Butler Co., IA m. Lola ______ in Swift Co., MN about 1909. In I920 he was the proprietoer of a billard Hall in Appleton, Swift, Co. MN. In 1924 he was living in Pontiac, MI, in 1928 in Detroit, MI and was still there in 1964
- Jeanette E. "Nettie" McKINNEY b. Jan 1886 in Chickawaw Co., IA m. Rosco BREDAN after 1928 and was living in Los Angles, CA in 1964.
- Ida M. McKINNEY b. Aug 1888 in Chickasaw Co., IA. She m. Walter SMITH about 1916. In 1920 they were living in Glenwood, Pope Co., MN. They moved to Walla Walla, Washington before 1924. and were still there in 1964.
- Walter H. McKINNEY b. Oct 1897 in IA. In 1920 he was living with Ida in Glenwood, Pope Co., MN. In 1924 he was in St. Paul, MN, in 1928 and in 1964 he was in Detroit, MI.
About three years before his death, George was diagnosed with chronic nephritis. He died 7 May 1919 and was buried in the Appleton cemetery. His wife went to live with their daughter Ida at Glenwood, Pope Co., MN and moved with them to Walla Walla, Washington where she died 19 Jul 1924. She was buried in Appleton, MN
The 1900 census seems to indicate that there was another child in this family who died young, but no information has been found.
