Elizabeth Shurts Elizabeth SHURTS was born about 8 Sept 1817 in NJ according to her obituary. Her parents are unknown. She was married to Abraham P. HUFFMAN/HOFFMANin New Jersey in 1835. She and Abraham appear on the 1850 Hunterdon Co. census in Readington Twp.
She moved with husband and family in 1853 to Bureau Co., IL. She was probably there before 1853 when her daughter married in Bureau Co. She was united with the M. E. Church in 1856. During her stay there she acquired property in the village of Malden which was disposed of in her will. Sometime between moving there and 1870 she and Abraham were divorced. She is listed in the 1870 cesus with her daughter as age 51 and having $1200 of real property.
Elizabeth moved to Story Co., IA about 1871/2 with her childrens' families. She acquired land there also which was left to her children. Her death record lists her occupation as nurse.

She died in Grant Twp., Story Co., IA on 21 Feb 1886 and is buried in the Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, Story Co., IA.
Nothing is known about the parents of Elizabeth. Elizabeth has not yet been found in the 1860 census. In 1860 Peter is on his own and Catherine is living with Washington Shugart and their first three children in Bureau Co. Further research is needed in this area.
