Philip Bessey Philip BESSEY was born ca 1813 (1)most likely in Seneca Co., NY.(2) It is believed that he is the son of John BESSEY (3) and Lucy BALDWIN. He moved with his parents about 1832/3 to the Jackson Co. area of Michigan. He married Evaline Cecily HUBBARD, daughter of Daniel and Pamelia Hubbard about 1836.(4)
They moved by 1840 to Delaware Twp, Walworth Co., WI.(5) Philip bought about 80 acres of land in Walworth county from the government on 10 Oct 1840.(6) He sold this land 15 Mar 1842 to John Bessey, shortly before a court case was started for money Philip owed in Michigan.(7)
Philip and his family are found living next to John Bessey in the 1846 census of Wheatland Twp., Racine Co., WI (later Kenosha Co.) (8)but Philip has not been found after that. Evaline returned to MI with the children and later remarried there by 1856. So either Philip had died or she divorced him. (9)

There was a Philip Bessey in Olney, Richland Co., IL in Feb 1859 in trouble again for owing money, but no proof that this is the same Philip.(16) John's will implies that Philip is in California in 1852 and neighbors in the court papers in WI in 1843 seem to think that Philip was heading for Mississippi.
Although this page only connects to John Bessey, I would also very much enjoy corresponding with descendants of Philip or any of the other children. I would also be very interested in finding out what happen to Philip.
