MCBAIN was b. 10 Jan 1889 in Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA. (1)
He was the son of James
Elmer SHULTZ and Lucy
HUTZELL. When Gurney was four years old, his parents were divorced
and the children were "given into the care and custody of the Iowa Educational
Aid Association during the years of their minority".
Gurney was taken into the family of Donald and Margaret (REED) MCBAIN of Dike, Grundy Co., IA by 1895 (2) and was raised with their five daughters: Mary, Josephine, Agnes, Myra, and Susan.(3) Sometime between 1907 and 1917 when he enlisted in the military for WWI (4) he took the name of McBain.
On 4 Sep 1920, he was married to Mary Elizabeth WALKER in Minneapolis, Hennipin Co., MN. (5) She was the daughter of James WALKER and Eda Estella RAPER. Gurney and Mary lived out their lives in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk Co., IA where he worked for Viking Pump. He died 22 Feb 1943 in Des Moines, Polk Co., IA(6) and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, Grundy Co., IA(7)

- Eloise (Lois) Estella McBAIN b. 22 Jul 1924 in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk Co., IA (9) On 13 Jan 1946 she married 1) Albert Lincoln JENSEN in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk Co., IA. (10) They were divorced 18 Dec 1967 (11) and she remarried 2) William Frank HUME 31 Aug 1971 in Waterloo, Black Hawk Co., IA.(12) She died 4 Jul 1987 in Tampa, Hillsbourgh Co., FL (13) and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, Grundy Co., IA (14)
